The artificial bite has been really good and the shiner bite has been off the charts for big fish. Artificial baits of choice for me this week were the Mike Bucca 7” Bullshad bone, 9” BullGlide bone, 6” Bullgill bone, Bass Assassin RSB worms Gooseberry, and the Jackhammer half ounce Bret’s Bluegill with a Hogfarmer Greenpumpkin Magic trailer.
Mike Bucca and I fished together for three and a half days and boated a bunch of great fish. We both hooked up on a couple giants and they either broke the line or threw the bait. These baits work!!!! You have to just commit the time and they will produce better quality fish. We fished edges of deep water and the ditches. The most productive bait seems to be the 6”Bullgill in bone. Jim Fallon and Brad Cameron can attest to its productivity.
The RSB worms are catching some good fish in 6-8’ of water around scattered hydrilla. Gooseberry was our most productive color again. I use an eighth ounce weight to keep it more on top of the grass as I drag it along.
Jackhammers on the grass flats is still the deal. We have been ripping it through the grass to get the reaction bite.
Captain Dan Lally put Steve on a giant fish today. 13.02lbs. That’s the biggest this year ,to my knowledge, that’s been caught in 2023. Steve also caught an 11.6lb beast a few days ago with Dan’s dad Mike. Giant shiners equal giant fish (most of the time).
