Good morning all you hardcore Sebastian Inlet fishing friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Again, I don’t like doing these kinds of reports, but I tell it like it is, no sugar coating. Due to the weather conditions we had at the coast ALL last week, and through the weekend, the fishing at the inlet has been absolutely horrid to say the least! With the waves and surf being upwards of 6-7 feet, and the winds being in excess of 25-35 mph, access to the north jetty was just about impossible! If you went out there you were risking your safety! Trust me, been out there before in those conditions, personally got hurt, and saw some other folks sustain injuries AND even broken bones! NO FISH IS WORTH YOUR SAFETY! Be smart.

The south jetty was pretty much the same way. The waves were breaking over the jetty from the tip all the way along the rock shoreline to the catwalk! Again, not a safe scenario, nobody was out there. Not worth the risk in my book. So, with all that being said, there were some fish being caught back inside the inlet in the more protected areas along the shorelines on both sides, west of the catwalk. I had reports, and saw some nice sheepshead and black margate being caught on cut dead shrimp. Nothing big, but some nice fish to take home. The T-Dock area was producing some spanish mackerel and bluefish on silver spoons, small jigs and live greenies. Again, not any big fish, but big enough to take home for dinner. Haven’t heard much on the snook or redfish as the winds and weather and very dirty water has put a damper on the fishing until things clean up some and calm back down.

As for this week coming up, things are supposed to calm down considerably in the wind and seas category, and with the coastal water temps being in the 73-75 degree range, which our cold-water fish like. If it cleans up quite a bit look for the black drum, pompano and sheepshead to show up again as they did last month when the water was clean and cool. Sand fleas, live and dead shrimp and clams will be the baits to use for them. Also if there are any small mullet around, or greenies, the spanish mackerel and bluefish should show up again, and pick up where they left off two weeks ago when they were biting. With the water temps cooling off like they are, it’s going to be harder to get the snook to bite because they don’t like the cooler water. Redfish should be around as well as they don’t mind the cooler water.

Well, that’s it for now my friends! As I stated earlier, we’re supposed to have a good week weatherwise, so get out and enjoy the nice fall weather we have now, wet a line, enjoy the beach and the Florida outdoors! Be safe, be smart and have a great week everyone!
