Windy conditions still plague our fishing adventures and this next week’s forecast doesn’t look much brighter. Headwaters is still the place for numbers of bass to be caught on artificial lures. The big fish are still very picky on their choosing and a wild shiner just might give an opportunity for a Personal Best catch.

We had a great day on Wednesday catching over 30 fish in an hour throwing jerk baits up against hard edges of a ditch canal. I made 5 casts in a row and caught a fish on each of them. The jerk and stop action was the ticket as the fish would load up our rods on the pause of the presentation. The winds were strong enough that it was actually white caps on the surface. The water levels have dropped some and caution needs to be taken when moving around the impoundment.

I watched this beautiful bass boat coming up to a spot that I knew was very shallow next to a ditch . He was still on a full plane at about 20 mph or so and when he hit it he stopped abruptly on top of the sandbar. We were catching a lot of fish in our spot and didn’t want to stop having fun so we let him sit there to think through what he just did.

When the bite slowed we made an attempt to go over to see if we could help him get unstuck. We made several attempts to dislodge his boat to no avail. What really was concerning was that he was by himself and left his phone in his truck. 10,000 acres of waterways and this guy had a lucky day that we were there to help. After a 3 hour wait Sea Tow came to his rescue only because we used our phones to call for this gentleman. After a good day of catching and leaving the parking lot I drove down to the Stick Marsh to see the water level. It has dropped down to very low conditions as well as its neighbor 3 Fork. Extreme caution using a smaller lightweight boat should be used if heading out there to fish.
