headwaters bass fishing

The lake is cooling down this week (77 degrees) and the fishing is getting better by the day. Top baits this week for me has been a Bass Assassin RSB worms, Boogerman Buzzbaits, Zman Jackhammers and the Mike Bucca 7” Trick Shad.

I’m fishing the half ounce Gold Shiner Jackhammers in areas with scattered hydrilla. I use a 4.5″ Hogfarmer Spunk Shad in TN Shad. I reel these fast enough to pop off the grass or I’ll slow it down and pop it off the bottom.

I’m fishing the RSB worms in ditches near flats. I’m using an 1/8oz weight and putting a bobber stopper 10” above my bait. Fish it slow slow slow. Almost a dead stick retrieve by dragging a foot and let it sit as long as you can stand it. Gooseberry and Watermelon Slice is the colors I’m catching them on right now. You can find them at BassAssassin.com

The Mike Bucca 7″ trick Shad in the Shad color is working great early in the morning. Bone is my favorite color but I’m getting more bites on the Shad color. The Trick Shad baits are only available through a bait drop. Get on the Bullshad email mailing list so you can get the bait drop info. Sign up at Bullshad.com

The Boogerman Buzzbait with a silver blade have been my favorite topwater bait. I like white with a Bass Assassin Die Dapper swimbait as my trailer. They are eating these so no need for a trailer hook.

The live bait bite is just unbelievable right now. The bigger fish are starting to show themselves a little more. The bigger the shiner the bigger the fish. We have had some giant fish this past week on big bait.

Tight lines!
