Fall weather moving into winter is where the fun begins for the freshwater angler. So many variables will take place for anglers to deal with as to how we fish our neighboring waters. Back to back cold fronts, extreme water temperatures dropping overnight, high pressure barometer readings, post to pre-spawn activity for the bass to stage. Then throw in the moon phases too. All these factors will be happening for the next 3-4 months. Finding the right opportunity to have a successful day will be if the moon and stars all align together or just old fashioned luck.
I spent two days fishing last week. My first day, I was able to babysit my grandson due to school being out on Monday. We hit up the Lagoon and soaked a couple dozen shrimp in a couple of hours. We caught several nice trout, a few jacks and one small tarpon which my grandson became my cameraman for this moment. Two dozen shrimp equals about two hours of fishing as his tolerance begins to take over from having fun to getting bored in this time frame. That’s okay with me as long as he wants to go with me again.
Thursday I spent some time at Garcia with a friend. We managed to catch around ten bass in the morning just before noon. A lot of our fishing was staying on the trolling motor looking at different areas as this little body of water is constantly changing for vegetation reasons. Finding areas with hydrilla is the key to bites. We fished throwing topwater lures, blade baits and my old time favorite a Zoom Trick Worm in bubblegum color. We did manage to come across some schooling activities that gave up a couple of bass. I’m looking forward to the upcoming weeks for all these changes to start taking place for my fishing adventures.
Good stuff Terry, I bet your grandson enjoyed seeing that Tarpon get reeled in!
