Mullet mayhem will now begin in the various sounds and bays from the Chesapeake in Virginia, through the Pamlico in North Carolina, and all the way down to the Altamaha in Georgia. Billions of these baitfish will be swimming southward over the next few months to their wintering grounds in south Florida.

Mullet are a crucial source of sustenance for a majority of the saltwater predatory species that inhabit the coastal waters of the east coast. These predators aggressively feed on the migrating mullet so they can fatten up for the winter. The mullet run will crescendo around mid-October when the predators will feed recklessly in their attempt to put on the weight they will need to make it through the winter months.
