headwaters bass

The Headwaters Lake is up 18″ and there is a lot of floating vegetation pretty much everywhere.

Top baits this week for me has been Zman Jackhammers, Snagproof Poppin’ frogs, and the Mike Bucca 5” Bull Gills.

The Snagproof Poppin frog is fairly new and it works great. I’m fishing along reed edges, floating islands and edges of wind blown cuts. Black is my favorite color in this frog.

I’m fishing the half ounce green pumpkin and dirty white (has a gold blade) Jackhammers in areas with scattered hydrilla. I use a 4.5” Hogfarmer Spunk Shad in green pumpkin magic or Blizzard gizzard. Fishing these on flats with scattered hydrilla.

The Mike Bucca 5” Bull Gill in Bone color is my go to bait. Get on the Bullshad email mailing list so you can get the bait drop info. The only way to get the Trick Shad and Glides are go to a bait show that Bullshad attends or through the bait drops. Sign up at Bullshad.com

The live bait bite is on fire. The bigger fish are starting to show themselves a little more each week. Grass edges near deep water is the key. The bigger the shiner the bigger the bite. If you are on the fish you’ll go through 2 dozen an hour with 2 guys fishing.

Tight lines!
