I fished Headwaters on Monday last week and also Friday on the Lagoon. The lure of choice again was a suspending jerkbait but what surprised me was the bright bluebird skies around the one o’clock time frame when the topwater bite turned on. What I have experienced so far on this lake of 10,000 acres is exploring different areas and when we find fish we start to pick apart the waters close to it and find the sweet spots for bigger fish.
Friday was the first time back on the lagoon in some time. The snook bite was impressive as I was broken off by a big 40”+ fish that dominated the fight as soon as I felt it hit my suspending lure. I got a tail walk from it that will be forever etched into my brain just before she cut me off from its gill plates. My wife was with me which doesn’t happen too often but I think after this day she might come more often. She managed to catch her first Bonnet Head shark using a live shrimp. All in all a good week.
