Only fished Headwaters once this past week before the wind machines turned on. We had a great bite and caught close to 30 bass mostly on soft plastic lures. We found an area which to me looked like it could have been at one time possibly an old orange grove or something. We kept the boat in a ditch which had about 5-6 feet of water lined with hydrilla on each side. Moving down this ditch on either side there were feeder ditches with thicker hydrilla topped out between them. My partner worked the main ditch as I worked the smaller feeder ditches. Weedless soft plastics were the perfect baits for this.
Water temperatures started in the mid 70’s and by the end of our trip was hitting 80. We pulled some good fish out of the water for some fun fishing. The hydrilla gnats were out in full force, thank goodness for my buff. This week the winds will finally calm down for better fishing conditions.
