Last week’s fishing was good on both Garcia and Stick Marsh. For Garcia, finding the cleaner water and having hydrilla mixed in was key to getting bit. Several lure presentations were also key. The early morning was my favorite prop bait but as the winds picked up the better choice was a Chatterbait(black/blue) being ripped out of the grass. The strike came just after you yanked it out of the grass.
Stick Marsh is starting to show signs of the beginning stages of the water level drawdown. There were signs posted on Thursday at the ramp stating as of today (Monday) that they were going to aggressively start the drawdown. By the end of April going into May it should be close to the 4 foot drop in water level. It should be doubtful that a full size boat would be able to launch or fish the waters. We fished the SW corner again this past Tuesday and the bait of choice was a Gambler Burner Worm in June Bug color. It was quite windy but I managed to draw up a few to my YO Zuri 3Db Prop bait.
We should be finishing up our spawn for the year and the bite should be fantastic. It will be a great time to break out the Fly Rod and tie on a popper for some fun fishing.
