I fished two days on Garcia and one on Headwaters last week. Over the Labor Day weekend I hit up Garcia with my wife. It was nice to get out on the boat with her as it doesn’t happen all that much. The fish cooperated and ate what we offered to them.
I was throwing a topwater YO ZURI 3DR-X Pencil and my wife had a YO ZURI wake bait tied to her line. The wake bait will crawl and wobble on the surface if using a slow retrieval. However, I find if you wind it faster, it will run about 10-12 inches under the surface just above the submerged hydrilla and the bass can’t stand it!
After the topwater bite stopped for me I switched to my old time favorite Zoom Trick Worm in the bubblegum color, which caught a few fish for me after the switch. Water temperatures started in the lower 80’s. Tuesday was on Headwaters and boy was it a slow bite kinda day. We only caught 7 fish and all the ones I caught were on the Trick worm. Friday was back on Garcia but it was even slower than my Headwaters day.
I’m looking forward to October to get here to start getting the water temperature into the 70’s. These next few weeks I believe will be a somewhat traditional period for our fisheries.
