With our east central Florida snook “season” closed as of the 1st anglers can no longer keep one legal sized fish to take home. Some anglers really don’t care about this, they just want to play with something. So this month and next I will be focusing more on redfish than I have in the past few months.

Redfish have been out of season for a while but now with the addition of snook to the catch and release list we can go after the big three and try for an “inshore” or “flats” slam. A slam is three different kinds of fish all caught on the same trip. Around the Space Coast this usually consists of a redfish, trout and snook combo, but you can substitute a tarpon in place of any of these three species and it still works. This is a great accomplishment for light tackle anglers. If you manage to get the tarpon as well, this creates a “grand slam.” This is the ultimate 4-species combo that we challenge ourselves to try to accomplish landing in a day of fishing on our lagoons. Our days usually start before sunrise and end around noon, so if you think your angling skills are up to this challenge, let’s go give it a try.

I have a couple of days available in June, and July has plenty to choose from. If you like targeting large tarpon then July and August are your best months of the year. Big schools of tarpon show up in the near-coastal waters along the Space Coast area and we can go try for your next Silver King if you feel up to the task. Overall this is a great time to just get out and enjoy what this area has to offer. If you have any questions about these fishing excursions or what may be best for you and your crew, please feel free to reach out and give me a call at 321-636-3728 and I’ll try to help answer any of your questions. Let’s go catch your next memory!!
