Hope everyone had a great week and had a chance to get out and fish the beach! It has definitely been a hot one. The surf has been very calm with little to no seaweed, and this week’s conditions are looking much the same.
It’s summertime fishing, so it can be very hit or miss during the heat of the day. Your best bet is to fish early in the morning or later in the evening. We’ve been seeing some nice-sized whiting, a few black drum, lots of palometas, and sharks are everywhere if you’re into shark fishing. The standard pompano rig with white, orange, or pink floats has been producing the most bites. There’s no need for a Sputnik weight right now, as pyramid sinkers have been holding just fine. Frozen shrimp pieces, clam strips, and cut mullet have been the best bait choices.
As for shark fishing, there have been plenty of 3 to 6 foot sharks cruising the beaches and feeding on big chunks of mullet, bonito, and cownose ray. We carry a wide variety of shark rigs in the shop, so stop by and let us know what you’re targeting, we’ll be happy to get you set up. As always, tight lines, and have a great week!
