bass

The bite is getting better by the week. Come on, October! Looking forward to cool mornings and awesome topwater action.

This week I had some good fish on Mike Bucca Bull wake baits (Gizzard Shad) and had an absolute giant try and eat the 9” Bullshad but I missed her short strike at the boat. Also, the 9” Bull Glide in Bone worked super slow caught them up too.

They are eating the baby Torpedo (anything with a white belly) fished slow. I’m having my clients pop it pretty aggressively 2 or 3 times then let it sit 15 to 20 seconds before they pop it again. These fish really clean around hydrilla. Devil’s horse style baits are working as well but don’t chop the grass as well if you get too close to the grass.

big bass

Big worms in Junebug, Gooseberry and watermelon candy (RSB worms) are working great in deeper water or near hydrilla edges. I’m using a 3/16oz sinker with a bobber stopper a foot above the worms. My client/friend Jack wore them out on a Zoom Mag lizard (green pumpkin) today. He also punched up some quality fish on a blueberry Bass Assassin Skunk Ape using a 1.25oz weight. I had him punching the hydrilla mats that had water hyacinth sitting on top of them. If the bite slows down on blue bird sky days or you struggle to catch fish go punching mats and hang on!!!!

Square bill crankbaits with a Shad pattern are also working well. I like the Strike King Hybrid Hunter because it fishes well around grass. I’ve been fishing these slow, when I hit grass I’ll pause let it start to float up and start retrieving it. That’s when the strikes typically happen.

peacocks

Last Friday we made a trip down to Alligator Alley and wore out some peacocks. We boated over 120 fish in 5 hours on live bait, Rapala Xraps, YoZuri DB3 and the Mike Bucca baby Bull Shad Swimbaits (3.75”). Anything with an orange belly worked and these babies put up a fight.

If you are looking for a fishing charter that will help you learn these lakes and new techniques get in touch with me or one of my talented guides. We really enjoy helping fellow fishermen and women out. Good luck and have a great holiday weekend!!
