The bite has still been steady, and it’s been nice to have some calm water and beautiful days to fish. Unfortunately, that looks to come to an end starting this weekend and for most of next week. It will still be fishable, but a heavy sputnik will definitely be needed.
Most of the good bites have been on the backside of dead low tide, with only about an hour window or so to capitalize. Casting farther out has been a necessity due to how low the tide has been.
There have been lots of small whiting, jacks, and pompano, along with a few nice-sized black drum being caught. For the most part, those little sharks have stopped messing with people’s rigs. As they seem to be leaving, the bluefish have started to show up and have been biting the hooks off rigs, haha.
The bait of choice has been frozen shrimp and live sand fleas, rigged on a pompano rig with a sputnik weight. The color of the pompano floats hasn’t seemed to matter much lately, so pick whichever one looks appealing to you. Just make sure the shrimp are peeled and about thumbnail size before putting them on the hook.
On the inshore side, the bite has been very good in the Banana River. Redfish and snook have been feeding well, especially on live shrimp and Gulp shrimp. It’s definitely a great option if the beach conditions get too tough to deal with.
Stay tuned to our social media, we’ll be announcing our surf rod combo on Facebook March 31st! As always, tight lines!
