redfish

Hope everyone’s been staying cool out there! The beachside has been relatively calm the past week and this week it looks to continue. There’s been a nice little breeze blowing, which has made it comfortable on the sand without messing up the fishing too much. It can be brutally hot when the wind isnt blowing alittle bit.

The surf has been giving up a solid mix of small to medium whiting, with a few surprise big ones hitting the sand. A couple of jacks have been running through here and there to bend some rods, and of course, the usual summer crew of catfish have been showing up uninvited like they own the place but that’s just part of the deal this time of year. Best bets have been small pieces of shrimp on pink floated pompano rigs, which seem to be the hot ticket the past few weeks.

Over on the river side, things are heating up too. Redfish have been cruising around the flats and mangroves, and some big tarpon are starting to show face. They’ve been rolling just out of reach, and as always, they’re picky eaters—but they’re there! Downsizing your lure presentation has been the key lately. Small paddle tails, jerkbaits, topwater or live shrimp and finger mullet have been getting more looks than larger baits.

As always tight lines have a good week!
