Hope everyone is doing well and staying cool in this brutal heat! The beach waves have stayed calm and should continue that way—unless we get a surprise storm rolling through.

The bite on the beach has been kinda slow lately. There are still a few whiting and small pompano around, especially early in the morning, but nothing too crazy to brag about. And of course, the catfish are still out there in full force—seems like they’re always the most dependable bite on the beach this time of year. Most of the fish have been caught on frozen shrimp pieces (peeled, of course) rigged on pink float pompano rigs.

The real action has been just off the sand. We’ve been seeing some big tarpon running the beach, blowing up on pogy schools cruising just outside the breakers. If you’re trying to get in on that, your best shot is either cast-netting pogies or using live croakers, then free-lining them about 100 yards off the beach—or using a popping cork to keep the baits up in the water column. A lot of guys in boats and kayaks have been hooking up right outside the surf line.

Have a great week, and tight lines as always!
