How Do Rain Barrels Help the Lagoon?

This week, we’re talking about rain barrels. Did you know the first few minutes of rainfall carry the most pollution? As stormwater runs off your roof, across your yard and driveway and down roadways, it washes fertilizer, car oil, grass clippings, and pet waste into the Lagoon. Rain barrels intercept water from your roof via an easy connection to a downspout. This decreases the amount of water able to flow over our yards, driveways, and streets, allowing less pollution to be carried to the lagoon. Install a rain barrel to collect this water and prevent it from washing pollution into the Lagoon — and earn local discounts at your favorite businesses!

You can earn 30 Lagoon Loyal points by uploading a photo of the rain barrel installed at your home. Learn more about installing a rain barrel here.
