Things are really heating up on the water here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been targeting several different species throughout the backwaters. The bait continues to be scattered across the shallow flats of Mosquito Lagoon and spreading north into the creeks. Look for the redfish, trout and jacks to be mixed in the schools of bait early to mid morning. As the water starts to heat up they will start to move off the shallows into a little deeper water like shorelines and ledges. Plugs and spoons have been working good early as live bait has been a more consistent bite.
The weather has definitely been hot so early starts has also been working out well. Apart from the heat, the general conditions look good through the up coming weekend, but early next week could possibly be a wash out with a possible low pressure front heading towards Florida. We will just have to see how the forecast pans out .
