surf snook

Fishing along the beaches of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral has been productive this week with a mix of quality catches. People fishing the surf are finding good-sized whiting, scattered pompano, and a few solid black drum. The action has been best in the first and second troughs, with the exact zone shifting based on the stage of the tide.

The go-to setup continues to be Blue Magic shrimp pieces rigged on pompano rigs featuring pink, pink and white, and chartreuse floats. These color combinations have been drawing the most consistent bites. Make sure you bring some sputnik weights! It’s worth keeping your casts tight to the troughs before reaching for the long rod, as many of the fish have been caught close to the shoreline.

Conditions have been favorable, with wave heights holding steady around two to three feet through most of the week. Winds from the northeast have brought a steady breeze, which, although noticeable on the beach. The current is helping carve out deeper troughs while also bringing in cleaner water.

On top of that, the mullet run has been heavy along the beaches, with large schools moving steadily down the shoreline. These bait pods have been attracting snook, which are feeding aggressively in the surf. This makes for a great opportunity to target snook by matching the hatch with live mullet or throwing Live Target mullets, NLBN’s, or Bombers.

As always tight lines have a great week!
