I hope everyone survived the cold front, holy moly that was a rough one! Today I am going to talk about fishing “Downtown Melbourne.”

My name is Knox Robinson. I live in Melbourne with my wife Jessica, and our two boys - Seven, and Rix. I love to kayak fish all across Central Florida! I fish out of a Hobie Outback Mirage from Kayaks by Bo. Follow me on instagram where I post regular fishing content, my handle is @spacefish_kayakangler. Thanks for reading my reports here on Spacef

It has been a topsy-turvy last couple of weeks of weather that kind of feels like a roller coaster ride! One thing I wanted to commit time to this winter was being able to gain confidence in my ability to catch higher volumes, or quantity numbers of Snook throughout the bleak mid-winter.
The reason I have been hitting the Eau Gallie River so heavily lately is because of its wind protection, deeper waters and muddy bottoms which are three key components of good winter inshore fishing.
Today I am going to talk about some family fishing that was done in the days following Christmas. My brother, his wife, and their two kids came down for Christmas, and the day after Christmas I was able to take my brother out fishing. I took him to the Eau Gallie River/Elbow Creek because of how successful I was there a few weeks ago, and I wanted him to have a good experience.
I had a very Merry Snookmas on my last trip before Christmas day at Goat Creek. I have to give a huge shoutout to Luke Foster, a fantastic young angler, who attends Melbourne Central Catholic, he gave me a great run down on Goat Creek one day during finals week, and I have to say all of his advice was on point as I had a dynamite day fishing back there.
So the place I fished was Sam’s Creek in Northern Merritt Island. The location for the kayak/canoe launch at Pine Island is listed as 1655 Pine Island Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32953.
I hope everyone is having a great Holiday season so far. What an interesting weekend we just had, the weather warmed up, we had some humidity and cloud cover, but some very strong ENE winds rolled through. This made conditions in the IRL pretty choppy.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! We traveled to Georgia over the break to see family on both sides, we returned home on Saturday night. I was able to get out and fish yesterday. It was a new spot in my ongoing research to find the best winter inshore fishing spots.
How about that cold snap this week eh? With frigid (ish) temperatures at night and in the morning, this can throw our fishing plans, and production for a total loop. With that said, there are a few spots over the years that have proven to be productive for me during these weird late fall, early winter days when the temps are in the 40’s in the morning and warm all the way to the lower 70’s by mid afternoon with high barometric pressure, and blue bird skies mixed in.Tis The Season – Early Winter Inshore Fishing
One of the Bass I caught from the cove on the NW corner of Poinsett near the SJR Channel.
Hopefully this will be the first of many kayak Bass trips we get to take together. And yes, I did give her a hard time for the using the grippers on a small Bass.
There are a ton of Lily Pads on Lake Osceola, the Frog bite was really good when we were there this past weekend.
A trip south to Lake Ida is not just about Peacock's, it's a great place to catch Largemouth too!
I went back to Fox Lake Saturday, here are 3 of the species I caught Saturday afternoon.
The Bass fishing on the freshwater side took the cake, but this was my most exciting inshore catch on the Eau Gallie River this weekend. I have not caught very many of these guys in […]
While this is certainly not anything to brag about in the size category, I thought this fish was really cool looking in how dark it was. I know that Largemouth Bass are known as Black […]
My boys and I had a blast last night at Wickham Park. We caught 4 StumpKnockers in roughly an hour of fishing. Each one we landed brought tons of joy and excitement.
I caught this on my last inshore trip on the 4th. It was in the shallows off the mangroves close to the radio tower in Downtown Melbourne.
I caught this on my last inshore trip back on the 4th. The warmer weather led to a much better bite.
