I used to catch those in my grandparents canal in West Palm Beach when I was a kid. I think they call them Oscars to.
I usually catch Oscars on the way to the Glades. The Oscar’s (black and yellow) . Never caught a Mayan down south. Just Peacocks and Oscars
those are great in the skillet too
I just read the article by Paul Mcinis about the Mayan Cichlid. They can also be found pitching mangroves on the IRL. Yep, once you find their area they will be there. Yes they taste good. I read they can tolerate temp down to 46°. Like to chat with Paul, my number is on my profile.
