Fall is winding down and winter is quickly approaching. This week the Space Coast is going to experience its first cold snap of the year! Tarpon fishing has slowed, but the snook and redfish bite is still going strong! Anglers can find good numbers of snook and redfish of all sizes around each and every inlet right now.
With the lack of mullet, the bite has been epic. The only difficult part has been keying in on what bait is working best on any given day. It’s been changing more and more everyday. The best way to approach situations where you aren’t quite sure what the go to bait is for the day is to have a wide variety of baits. The usual go to baits are pigfish, pinfish, croakers, mullet and shrimp; and this time of year is no exception. However, time consuming have a large variety will definitely make a difference this time of year.
Another great method is to use artificial baits such as buck-tails jigs, swimbaits and larger grubs, these style artificials are great for mimicking a multitude of different baitfish and crustaceans and can often get you on a good bite! The cool weather should improve black drum fishing in the lagoon and hopefully some tripletail on the ocean side of things. As we transition into a more winter time pattern, it may be frustrating but have some patience as the cooler weather approaches and settles the fish towards a more consistent pattern.
