This week, I shifted my focus from mangroves to dock fishing in pursuit of redfish. Seeking wind-protected spots, I discovered that fishing closer to shore in the morning and gradually moving to deeper waters as the sun rose yielded the best results. When the sun was high, I targeted docks with boat lifts, capitalizing on the shade they provided for the fish to escape the heat. Don’t overlook the areas between docks, as they can be equally productive. My go-to lures were the Mirrolure Lil John and a small jerk shad, which I retrieved with slow, soft twitches and occasional pauses to entice strikes. Adjust your retrieve to suit the conditions, but this approach proved successful for me. The dock fishing transition paid off, and I landed some great redfish!
