One of my favorite fish to catch and eat on our beautiful space coast is the plentiful whiting and croakers. These fish tend to be on the small side, usually wont grow bigger than 2 lbs but can hold some nice white flakey meat!
This fish tastes great cooked with a little butter, salt & pepper in a saute pan or as a fish reuben. Put it on top of some fresh rye bread from the market, add sauerkraut and some thousand island dressing… might just be the best fish reuben you ever had! ????
Pompano are still being caught here and there. Most reports of pompano numbers are coming from Daytona and St. Augustine. Also, catching pomps in and around Hobe sound continuing south. These fish really like cool water temps and clear water. Hoping we’ll have some more pompano running through our county come March/April.
Sheepshead & Drum are still being caught around structured beaches. Any beaches holding rocks can continue to catch these fish on peeled shrimp, clam and fish bites.
