This week’s been an absolute dream compared to the last couple months! From Cape Canaveral down to South Melbourne, the fish action was outstanding! In the Cape Canaveral zone, we’ve had a bounty of black drum, ranging from little pups to delicious 14-24 inch keepers. Whiting have been hitting rigs left and right, and the ever-elusive pompano decided to grace us with their presence along the entire coast.
Now, let’s talk about the swell for the upcoming week – we’re looking at a manageable 3-4ft wave action, with 8-14mph east and southeast winds that won’t knock you off your feet. And guess what? The cold weather is taking a back seat, so it’s time to ditch the heavy gear and throw on those shorts without turning into human icicles haha.
When it comes to bait, the absolute winners have been live sand fleas and frozen shrimp pieces. We have plenty at our shop. Toss them on a standard pompano rig with a 2-4oz sputnik weight to hold. Don’t forget to keep a close eye on those tides – they’re still the big players in this fishing game.
For those of you seeking lure suggestions for beach casting, go shiny and go fast – that’s the mantra for this time of year. Gotcha plugs, spoons, Bomber Wind Cheaters, and Hogy baits – make sure these gems are in your tackle box. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and jacks won’t stand a chance against them.
Can’t wait to shoot the breeze with y’all at the shop. If you wonder what bait we have on the daily yall can follow us on Facebook and Instagram or give us a shout at 321-783-3477. See you soon, and as always, tight lines!
