Go fertilizer free this summer! Did you know there’s an ordinance banning applying fertilizer to your property in Brevard County from June 1 – Sept. 30? Roughly 80 percent of Florida’s rainfall takes place during the summer. Heavy rainfall can cause fertilizer to wash away from our lawns into storm drains that lead to the Lagoon. The phosphorus and nitrogen present in fertilizers fuels excessive algae blooms. This can kill seagrass, deplete oxygen, and result in dead fish.

Thankfully, there are small changes you can make to protect the Lagoon — and the aquatic life who call it home. Click here to learn more and pledge to go fertilizer free this summer!
