surf lure

Hey there all you east side fishin’ folks, and everyone in between.

Surf fishing has been getting very active post-hurricane Ian. We’ve had a solid push of fall fish such as redfish and pompano showing up on the beaches and at the inlets. Though the water temperatures aren’t ideal just yet for chasing those silver slabs, don’t be fooled, they are out there. Find some clean water and give them live or blanched sand fleas, shrimp or clams tipped with FishGum and you’ve got a recipe for success.

Mackerel and bluefish are chasing the mullet run all up and down the coast right now through October will be good fishing for them. My current favorite lure for this season is going to be the Gunslinger Jig from beachbumfishinglures.com. Tim Still is a craftsman and knows how to make lures for the everyday angler. He makes them for himself and supplies fishing fanatics like myself with serious metal! The best way to work the gunslinger jig is to keep your rod tip at a 45 degree angle and reel as fast as you can. A high ratio reel with lots of line pickup will be your best friend for getting that jumbo mackerel to hit. Slow your retrieves down and you will find yourself catching more bluefish than you know what to do with.

I hope everyone gets out soon and begins to experience the beauty of the Florida transition into fall and the spectacular fishing brought with it. Tight lines and good fishing ????????
