Got out early by my standards (6:45am) with the intention of working some new grounds off of Pineda Cwsy. The water was crystal clear and I could see a ton of sheeps head, mangroves, and drum. The mangroves and sheeps looks sizable but the drum were on the small end. Normally I solely fish artificial with the occasional finger mullet attempt for snook, trout, and reds. Today I decided that that I’d get some mullet, and bring a bag of old shrimp that I had caught of the Cape Canaveral causeway about a decade ago just in case. First cast with the net was all I needed to get a dozen perfect size finger mullet. I pitched and pitched and pitched against every dock, rock and mangrove line but never really saw any large fish. Went to paddle tails and gulp and for the first time of 2020 I got blanked on snook and reds. I switched to the shrimp and caught at least 20 mangrove snapper around 8-10 in one really nice one at 12in. Several small sheeps and two keepers. To keep this report honest I also had to weed through a dozen puffer fish or so. My best and most consistent bite came with crusher jigs and shrimp. If you have never used crusher jigs just to get that little extra distance, I highly recommend. The boat traffic in this area was way too heavy for my liking. I must have had 10 boats burn past me within 20-25ft despite there being plenty of room on the rest of the entire river. I hope you all had a better weekend on the water than me, but I’ll take what I can get. I’ll get some picks up later.

Covid might have something to do with all the boats. Going boating is one of the few things people can do with the lock down. So anyone that has a boat might be using it.
