triple tail fishing

Spring is in the air and the temps are finally climbing! We have had a pretty consistent cool winter here on the Space Coast. With fishing between fronts being challenging at times and brutally windy, consistency is on the way!

With waters warming, I really prefer getting out off the beach and around the inlets. After a lot of colder temps these warm trends really bunch up the fish and create some fantastic opportunities — from pompano and whiting to snook, cobia and triple-tail — the possibilities are endless!

Anglers this past week can find some really good pompano fishing in areas where the water temps are between 64-67 degrees. The key is looking for clean water. If you find these two your almost sure to find pompano, goofy jigs tipped with sand-fleas have definitely been the “go to.” Aside from the pompano, the triple-tail bite has really been good. Free floating fish along the beaches in 20/30 feet of water have been very prevalent; any sort of debris, color change, or even just warmer patches of water has had these fish floating up high on the surface making for easy fishing. Handpick live shrimp, or even small chunk baits on light leader and a small hook have been producing quite well and shouldn’t continue until things warm up beyond the 70 degree mark. Anglers can find these fish all the way from Ponce to Sebastian inlet, and even further south, making for great action along the entire coast!
