It’s a spawning frenzy on the Harris Chain of Lakes right now! Expect this warming trend to have bass doing their thing in areas with hard bottom along canals and other locations. You can sight fish big bass on beds, too. Remember, they can be frustrating at times to catch. Soft plastic jerk baits, senkos and trick worms are a big player in putting bass in the boat. Try colors such as watermelon red, june bug and, lastly, something in a pearl white color.
Experiment with different rigging options, too. Drop shot is a technique I have been using more often. Lipless crankbaits are another bait that I would try out this time of year. They are an amazing search tool to cover water to find the active fish.
I’m also hearing that crappie are being caught in good numbers, so small jigs and minnows are a sure bet to catch some of them.
