snook and tarpon trips

Our Summertime snook and tarpon bite is as hot as the weather. Tarpon finally showed back up in good numbers this week along the near-coastal waters around Port Canaveral. In some cases we are able to sight-cast to these fish. The rest of the time we are generally slow trolling or drifting live baitfish on a 5/0 to 7/0-sized circle hook. We are also finding better concentrations of tarpon in the lagoons as well on our trips this week. So for those of you that may get motion sickness we have options to put you on a large silver king in these relatively calm waters.

Snook are schooling at the inlets right now and most of these fish are running 30 to 40-inches. Live baits like pogies, pilchards, and croakers are working best during the daytime for these fish. We rig these on a 5/0 VMC circle hook or Saltwater Assassin 1/2 or 3/4-ounce jig heads.
