snook

Warm winters means one incredible snook bite! Winter is typically not known for a great snook bite, and with the season closing, some don’t even fish for them. However, with the more mild winter we have been experiencing, the snook and bull redfish bite has been off the charts!

Any large live bait such as pigfish, pinfish, croakers, and mullet are all producing good numbers of fish, as well as artificial baits such as live target mullet, flair hawk jigs, and any large swim bait such as the no live bait needed brand.

Not only are the inlets and beaches still producing good numbers of snook, anglers can also find good numbers along mangrove shorelines and residential docks. These fish are coming out of the canals and deeper areas mid morning looking to absorb sunlight and can often be seen just floating on the surface. A large free line shrimp, or artificial baits like the doa paddle tail and hard-baits such as rapala twitch n raps are great go to presentations.

I’m interested to see what the next few weeks have to offer as we are expected to have a slight cool down and some heavy winds.
