Tiffany got her redfish, albeit a small one while fishing with Capt. Mark Wright.
I’m beginning to think we’re not going to have a high-water period this spring. With cold front conditions and north winds still plaguing us, it’s getting terribly low in the Lagoon.
Still, we’re catching plenty of fish. Mostly “rat” reds and spotted seatrout especially when using artificial lures. Natural bait anglers have to weed through many hardhead catfish before catching a redfish or trout.
Last Sunday Tony had his way with smallish redfish and trout in all sizes while throwing a Skitterwalk. I added substantially to the count by throwing Z-Man Diezel Minnowz. It’s always fun when the predators are chewing on top and bottom at the same time!
Friday Bill and Chip teamed up and caught quite a few rat reds on Diezel Minnowz as well as a few top-slot trout. Top-water plugs drew the occasional slap from the trout, though only one was caught on the surface this day.
Saturday we switched gears at Craig and Tiffany’s request and used natural bait. Not my favorite approach in the warm water season. The marauding schools of pinfish wreaked havoc on our live shrimp and cut mullet. Often a hardhead would engulf the mullet before the pinfish had a chance to pick it apart. Tiffany did finally achieve her goal of catching a redfish. This red was the only one that beat the catfish to the bait!
