Seems as though things are starting to slow down for us on the beach targeting the elusive Pompano …
Over the last couple of weeks, surf fishing has been hit or miss here on the beautiful Space Coast. It’s been a story of battling the elements, be it wind, weeds, dirty water, or a combination of all three. Although some anglers are catching keeper Pompano here and there, they’re not being produced at the rate they should be this time of year. To find success when the fish are sparse, look for good outflows, clean water, and try to catch the right tide. If you’re willing to take a hike north or south in either direction, you might have better luck. There’s larger numbers of keeper Pompano being caught from both Playalinda to Daytona Fort Pierce to Deerfield Beach.
It seems a lot of the keeper Pompano in Brevard have found their way into the lagoons in search of food and warmer water temperatures. Catching these Pompano on light tackle and Pompano jigs in the lagoon can be a lot of fun! Anglers are catching them both in the Port and around Sebastian.
For those of you fishing the tournament this weekend, it should be a GREAT turn out! We have plenty of spots still available, so stop by Strike Zone Melbourne or give them a call and get signed up! Proceeds of the tournament are going to the Goode family and helping their daughter fight leukemia! The captains meeting will be held Friday March 29th from 6-7pm. We’ll also have the FISHBITES tent at Strike Zone all weekend offering an awesome deal: buy (2) bags of Fishbites in the store and walk out to the tent and grab another bag for FREE! We’ll have tons of stuff to raffle off and give away, in addition to cash prizes for 1st place and an awesome custom, one-of-a-kind Pompano mount from our family at Mount This Fish Company! Don’t forget about our Jr. Angler Division! It’s a great tournament for the whole family to join in on!
