Stay Shallow and Fish Deep!
Early in the morning there isn’t really any weed line until you hit 170 ft. Once out there the weeds are too thick for trolling. By about noon, blue water and few weeds appear in 90 to 115 ft of water; this will likely change next weekend because it depends on the tides. This is your best bet for dolphin and kings. 90% of the fish I have been catching take the downrigged bait 30 ft behind the cannonball and 40 feet of rigger cable out with an 8lb ball, so down 20′. I don’t think skirt color matters too much but I like coke or blue and clear. Stinger hooks are a must.
Yes, it does have to do with the tides. Peak high tide was 12:31 PM yesterday which brought in the blue water and scattered weeds.
Good report captain, it’s really easy to over run the fish. I’ve done it 100 times myself. Now I typically drop lines in around 70-80 feet and start there with quite a bit of success. Thanks for the report!
Great info, thanks for sharing!
