Harris chain bass fishing

I, for one, am ready for some cooler weather! Cooler weather means bass will be feeding on small shad and other baitfish. Casting around chatterbaits can mimic those delicious morsels perfectly. I would have a white, sexy shad, black and blue or a golden shiner colored bait tied on. You can fish these baits around heavy cover, docks, riprap and other fishy areas.

I fish a swimjig because of the versatility of it. You can fish it through lilly pads and other grasses. Pro tip: be ready for that violent explosive strike. It might come when you least expect it.

Soft plastic jerkbaits such as a big dawg baits twitchin minnow are a staple on the Harris Chain. You can rig these many different ways. Texas rigged, Carolina rigged and also weightless rigged. Any color that looks like a baitfish is what I would have tied on.

Areas near canals will start holding fish that eventually will make their way to spawn along the edges of canals. Casting lipless crankbaits is a good bait to find active feeding fish. I would try to fish the bait with different retrieves because it can really make for a fun fishing trip when you find schools of hungry bass.

Topwater plugs like a spook can be casted a country mile. Colors to have tied on are golden shiner or sexy shad. Be sure to work the bait and give it some pauses when you retrieve your bait. Erratic movements with some slight pauses have been the best throughout my many years of fishing.
