Cooler weather means that we now have a few new species to target in the canals and flats along the Space Coast. Black drum and sheepshead have started to show up in much better numbers this week. We’ve mainly been targeting them with live shrimp, but if you can find fiddler crabs, these will be great baits too. Your rig can be a very simple one consisting of a split shot and a 1 or 1/0 sized circle hook. Captain Justin and I like to use 20 to 25-pound test Sufix Fluorocarbon for our leader material. Redfish and speckled trout will also strike this rig.
Anglers may start to see lots of little redfish in the 8 to 12-inch range over the winter months in our lagoon system thanks to the “Release the East” restocking initiative that the Florida chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association has created. This is going to be an ongoing project to benefit the anglers on the east side of the state. If you enjoy fishing in our state waters and haven’t become a member of the CCA, I would strongly recommend joining this fantastic organization that continues to help those of us that love to spend time on our Florida waters. A portion of your membership fee is used to help with this redfish restocking program. Anyone looking to buy a fishing charter gift certificate to put in their favorite anglers Christmas stocking, or wanting to book a trip with us can visit our website and purchase either on our interactive website. If you have questions about the type of trip that you would like to go on, or a specific species that you would like to target, please give us a text or phone call at 321-505-8217. Let’s go catch your next memory!
