Hey what’s up everybody? Super short report for this week.

The mullet are here and they are getting blasted by everything from tarpon, sharks, redfish, and of course, snook. The hardest part will be locating the bait and the predators, but once you do, try a big swim bait, a big spoon, or a big plug such as an x rap or a Yozuri crystal minnow. I have been having the most success using live bait around Sebastian inlet.

There are a lot of slot sized redfish mixed in right now. Remember that the season on redfish is closed and they are not harvestable. If you are looking to catch a fish for dinner this is what you will need – a 4000 sized reel with 20# mono or braid with a 30 pound fluorocarbon leader at least 3 feet long tied to a 2/0 mustad live bait hook. Attach a 3/4 to 1 ounce pinch weight depending on current and size of your bait. You are going to have the most luck with finger mullet in the 5-6” range and 8-10” silver mullet.

Pompano are showing up at our local beaches, cooler temperatures coupled with a good blow of offshore winds are creating great conditions for fall surf fishing. The water quality is great around the inlets and is semi green further away from them. Pompano will take sandfleas, shrimp, and clams for “natural” baits and they will gulp up FishGum if you put it in front of them. My preferred rig to use with these particular conditions is the Chartreuse Surfari surf fishing rig from pompano Rich. If you find there is too much current to hold bottom I recommend using a Sputnik sinker starting at 3oz and move up from there. Get out while the conditions are good and have fun.

Catch em up!
