golden tilefish

Chris Pashos and son Dean may have broken the scale with these monsters! They landed on the meat deep dropping out of Port Canaveral. The golden tilefish weighed in at 39 pounds, 13 ounces. The yellow edge group tipped the scales at 29.5 pounds.

Chris reported on the trip:

Fishing deep today with son Dean. Plan was to slow pitch jig at first and then try the deep drop grounds. Caught way too many red snapper to count and they were all safely descended back home. We also caught some nice triggerfish and a couple red porgies. Decided to head deep and try slow pitch jigging for tilefish. Not as productive as we’d like and after getting a bit tired we decided to drop down. first up Dean hooks a 29 pound yellow edge grouper. A few high fives and we tried to manually jig for them again. No luck back on the electric and about 20 minutes later the old man hooks up with the biggest golden tile I’ve seen. Definitely PB. 39 pounds on a digital scale. We decided we had plenty of fish and left them chewing.
