Knowing that the ramps would be slammed, the spots would be pressured, and my time on the water was limited to a few hours, I decided to roll out without sleep at around 5:15am. Hit Jorgensons landing with 2 dozen shrimp, fiddlers, and my arsenal of artificials. Hit a few trout ranging from 12-18” on Yo-Zuri pencils, around the mangroves, but didn’t get my normal snook blowups. Switched to the Z-Man Pop Shadz weed less and missed a nice tarpon when I basically yanked the bait out of its mouth like I wasn’t attempting to catch fish. These things always seem to happen to me in 3s as I then missed back to back snook.
Having to re-rig I threw a new shadz on and landed a 20” one right at the boat. Changing things up I went with shrimp on a crusher jig and worked the island house’s docks. The mangroves were everywhere, and so were the sheeps. Due to the water clarity I was site casting them with ease. The large pinfish 11-14” were everywhere and I weeded through a bunch of those until I went to the crabs. The crabs got the sheeps going but after getting two nice ones, I was done. I hope you all kept these fish honest this weekend, and I want to see some reports.
Sounds like an action packed day!
Worth missing some sleep, for sure.
