The whiting bite was insane this past week when the water was clean. A few nice pompano are still lingering around as well. Snook fishing off the beach in the troughs has been heating up, too. All in all, it was a great week for fishing. There were minimal weeds and only a few days with dirty water where the catfish thrived.
Targeting the whiting and pompano was simple. The fish were all close to the shore. Frozen shrimp pieces and clams worked well for most people when rigged on a pompano rig or single drop rig. The snook have been chewing on live finger mullet, small whiting, and croakers. Don’t forget to bring a swimbait with you too. Walk out about knee height in the water and cast sideways. It seems odd, but that’s how it’s done if you’re going to throw artificial baits.
This week is going to be breezy, with winds coming straight out of the east. It looks like we might get hit with a little tropical storm, but time will tell. It’s just going to be a rough week to get out and fish.
That’s all for this week. Tight lines!
