Cold temps bring a hot bite to the deep water basins and shipping channel of Port Canaveral this week. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, Crevalle jack, and ladyfish are striking spoons and Rapala X-Rap lipped diving plugs that are being trolled behind our boats. This action can happen throughout the Port, but is best in the east portions of this body of water. Anglers can also cast these lures and retrieve them quickly to get solid action from these species. Sheepshead, blue runner, lane snapper, whiting, pompano, gag grouper, permit, snook, redfish, and the four species mentioned earlier are also hitting shrimp rigged on a light jig head. I prefer 1/8 to 1/4 ounce heads when fishing the drop-offs and rocky areas around the port.
With the recent cold temperatures that we’ve experienced, anglers should start to see tripletail, weakfish, and possibly a few cobia show up along the near coastal-waters outside of the port this week. We’ll be out there looking for them and will have a report on our findings in next week’s Spacefish report.
If you are interested in booking a charter with us, we only have a few openings over the next two weeks. Please go to our website FinelineFishingCharters.com or contact Captain Jim or Captain Justin at 321-636-3728 and we can get you lined up for some fun action while you’re on your Christmas break. We look forward to getting out for a fun time on the water with you to catch your next memory.
