I hope everyone who practices the faith has/had a happy Easter!
On the Fort Pierce fishing scene, things have been pretty good. Even though the snook bite has been a bit sluggish, likely due to our cool-ish water temps (70 degrees), other species are plenty active.
Sheepshead, several species of snappers, black drum, croaker and more are happily eating live shrimp. You can find them on hard structure and along channel edges. Some moving from spot to spot might be necessary, but when you find them the bite is active.
I’m seeing “fry-fish” in the backwaters and looking forward to them growing quickly and revealing which species they will become!
In the jungle trees we’ve managed a few snook using live pilchards. While I prefer tossing Z-man soft-plastics near the mangrove branches, it’s hard to argue with the success that live baitfish brings.
Deeper flats and other open water areas south of town are holding a few pompano. Cover likely bottom quickly using Goofy-jigs and expect to be interrupted by jacks and ladyfish.
