I hope everyone had a great week of fishing and is looking forward to the Fourth of July!
Last week wasn’t outstanding in terms of catches, but it was filled with lots of whiting, ladyfish, and black drum. Those pesky catfish loved the dirty water, and you had to fight through them to get to the better fish. There were a few days with patches of floating weeds but it was fishable for the most part. I think everyone has picked through some salad before. If you are a shark fisherman, you were in luck—they were biting every bait you could think of, bonito, mullet, ladyfish, you name it was getting hit.
This week, the waves are going to stay flat at a cool 1-2 feet. We still have a southeast wind for most of the week, not blowing super hard but just enough to put a light chop on the water, which tends to make fishing a bit better than flat calm waters. Using standard pompano rigs will be your best bet, rigged with some frozen shrimp or clams. Don’t be afraid to throw a fish finder rig or knocker rig with some live shrimp or finger mullet, as there have been some nice redfish and snook being caught. Don’t fish too far out for them though because they are in close chasing the bait that is moving along the beaches.
I hope everyone has a great holiday! Fish hard, party hard, and most of all, tight lines!
