surf fishing cocoa beach

This past week was fantastic for most, with various good species showing up in the super clean beach waters! Snook, pompano, big whiting, black drum, palometas, and bluefish were all biting. The waves were not bothersome, and the current wasn’t pushing hard either.

This week, we are looking at stronger east winds but still small swells along the beachlines. It looks like the rain will hold off, giving us sunny skies most days, but everyone knows it’s Florida, and those afternoon storms can pop up out of nowhere, haha.

Frozen shrimp, clams, and sand fleas have been the best baits for catching fish. Using the standard pompano rig with orange, pink, and blue/white floats has produced the most bites. As mentioned above, the water was crystal clear in most areas, and the fish loved it. The fish were all in the first troughs during falling and low tides, and during rising and high tides, they were everywhere you cast.

The snook bite has been very hot in the close-in troughs and washout areas. Throwing pearl-colored DOA, NLBN, Hogy’s, and R&R slide baits have produced the best fish. But beware, there are still pesky bluefish biting the tails off the soft baits.

I hope everyone got out and fished this past week and weekend, and I will be back next week. Tight lines!
