Overall, it’s been a fairly slow bite this week, but as the fish become more accustomed to these cooler conditions the bite is bound to improve. Snook, bluefish, jack and pompano are striking live shrimp along the near-coastal waters on our recent excursions. I like to rig my shrimp on a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig head and work them slowly along the sandy bottom areas inside and outside of Port Canaveral. As long as the winds are out of the north or west these areas should continue to be fishable.
On days when the winds are out of the south or east we prefer to take our customers to the Indian and Banana River lagoons to keep them from getting sea sick. Redfish, black drum, and speckled trout are the most common species we are finding in these waters. Make sure to slow your presentation as the water cools. The fish will also normally eat a little later in the morning if temps dip into the 40 degree range overnight.
Don’t forget you can buy fishing charter gift certificates right from Fineline Fishing Charters. Just fill out the form for any amount, pay and your certificate will be mailed to you immediately. These make great stocking stuffers for the whole family. We have a surprising number of open days over the Christmas through New Year’s time frame, so if any of our Spacefish customers call us at 321-505-8217 we will offer them a $50 discount toward any trip they book with us from now through January 6th. We hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas and Happy New Year!!
