cocoa beach whiting

Finally, a delightful shift in conditions for everyone in the Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach areas this week! Expect pristine waters and an influx of fish. Last Friday marked the beginning of a fantastic whiting, black drum, and palometa bite! Any bits of shrimp, sand fleas, or clam were getting hit hard, especially close to the beach in the first troughs. Bluefish were swarming, eagerly biting on chunks of finger mullet.

This coming week almost promises even clearer waters. With the winds pushing in the right direction, we hope to see a nicely carved trough without strong gusts. The weather forecast is sunny with a few clouds here and there, leading into Memorial Day weekend. The surf will be calm with a light chop, perfect for fishing.

Your best baits are still frozen shrimp pieces and clams. Don’t forget to grab a few sand fleas from the beach to diversify your offerings. Rig everything up on a standard pompano rig with a 3-5 ounce pyramid lead, and you’ll be golden. All the notable catches this week have been close in, right after the breaking waves on the beach. Be sure to find those prime troughs and rips flowing back out to the depths, and you’ll be in for a successful fishing trip!

That’s all for now! Looking forward to seeing you all in the shop soon!
