snook fishing

After being a full time charter captain for the past 25 years, I don’t usually like to throw the words “epic” or “incredible” around when talking about the fishing each week. This past week’s snook bite at our area inlets has been just that- nothing short of spectacular!

There were a few things that came together to make this happen. Good amounts of croakers returned to the near coastal waters and were joined by a small resurgence of fingerling mullet. To put some icing on this cake we had a large shoal of jumbo shrimp move into the Canaveral Bight. This trifecta of bait species made for one of the most incredible weeks of fishing that we’ve experienced in a long time. A simple sliding sinker or knocker rig and a lively bait was all it took for us to have 60 to 80 fish days on the snook and redfish. I’m hoping this action continues for a little while longer so that more of our clients can see how “epic” this area of Florida can be in the fall.
