bass fishing Harris chain

Cooler temperatures have made for some great days of fishing on the Harris Chain of Lakes. Shorter daylight hours, but better fishing, is a win win for me. There’s also less boat traffic because of hunters spending free time in the woods. Largemouth bass are feeding on fingerling shad and other small forage. Golden shiners and bluegill are a year round food source them. Spinnerbaits and bladed jigs are working really well. Remember to make long casts and try to fish these baits near submerged vegetation. Hydrilla and peppergrass are what I am looking for. Lilly pad edges, shallow flats and areas near deep water are high percentage areas.

Lipless crankbaits can make finding active feeding fish quite easy. Pay attention while reeling in your bait because the strikes can happen out of nowhere. This is a great way to change up your retrieve to see how the fish are wanting it on that particular day. A steady reel with the occasional snap of the rod tip work most of the time. Topwater baits fished erratic can make for some fun fishing. Golden shiner color or a sexy shad are my bait color of choice. Now is the best time to get outdoors and do some fishing.
